Tributes Pour In for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Face a Security Hold.
Well beyond 14 days subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of celebrated film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones are still paying respects to the pair.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Sharing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, explained he only now felt prepared to share openly about his profound loss.
"Sufficient time has gone by that I can now express my sorrow into words," shared Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner made him fall in love. "As we began sharing more moments together I knew this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor posted archival material from the film, remarking that he cannot recall "a single day without mirth".
"The movie is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Principles that Rob held dear. Which is among the many reasons he was the best person to helm it," Elwes wrote.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, saying: "To say that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I recall you." He ended with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Colleague and Comrade
In a different piece, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved being with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the lead role.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked beautifully with his co-stars, and he grasped the human predicament of his character," Scorsese noted.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Sealed
Recently, a Los Angeles superior court judge agreed to bar the publication of the Reiners' autopsy reports, at the request from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A court order placed a security hold on the files to limit the public release of "related notes, documents, files or images" associated with the active case.
The coroner's office had already determined their deaths were the consequence of homicide, with a record noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the deaths, public individuals offered different responses.
Former President Donald Trump commented on the matter, making divisive remarks that were met with immediate backlash by many commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his perspective to the those speaking out recently. Talking on his show, Rogan described the statements as "disappointing" and suggested they demonstrated a concerning lack of empathy.
Rogan concluded by suggesting that an adviser should have acted when the impulse to weigh in on the death was made.
