Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing the manufacturers of acetaminophen, claiming the firms concealed potential risks that the medication presented to pediatric cognitive development.

The lawsuit follows four weeks after Donald Trump advocated an unproven link between using Tylenol - also known as acetaminophen - throughout gestation and autism in offspring.

The attorney general is filing suit against J&J, which formerly manufactured the medication, the only pain reliever recommended for expectant mothers, and Kenvue, which currently produces it.

In a statement, he said they "deceived the public by profiting off of pain and marketing drugs without regard for the risks."

Kenvue says there is insufficient reliable data linking acetaminophen to autism.

"These manufacturers misled for generations, deliberately risking numerous people to increase profits," Paxton, from the Republican party, stated.

Kenvue said in a statement that it was "seriously troubled by the dissemination of inaccurate information on the reliability of paracetamol and the possible consequences that could have on the welfare of American women and children."

On its website, the company also mentioned it had "continuously evaluated the pertinent research and there is insufficient valid information that demonstrates a proven link between using acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder."

Associations speaking for doctors and health professionals concur.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has declared paracetamol - the main ingredient in acetaminophen - is one of the few options for expectant mothers to address discomfort and fever, which can pose major wellness concerns if left untreated.

"In multiple decades of research on the consumption of paracetamol in pregnancy, not a single reputable study has successfully concluded that the usage of acetaminophen in any period of gestation results in neurodevelopmental disorders in children," the organization stated.

This legal action mentions current declarations from the previous government in asserting the drug is potentially dangerous.

Last month, the former president caused concern from public health officials when he instructed women during pregnancy to "struggle intensely" not to consume Tylenol when unwell.

The FDA then issued a notice that doctors should contemplate reducing the usage of Tylenol, while also mentioning that "a direct connection" between the drug and autism in young ones has remains unverified.

The Health Department head Kennedy, who oversees the Food and Drug Administration, had promised in spring to undertake "extensive scientific investigation" that would establish the cause of autism in a limited time.

But experts cautioned that discovering a unique factor of autism - believed by scientists to be the outcome of a complicated interplay of inherited and external influences - would be difficult.

Autism is a category of enduring cognitive variation and impairment that affects how persons experience and relate to the world, and is identified using medical professional evaluations.

In his lawsuit, Paxton - who supports Trump who is campaigning for federal office - claims the manufacturer and Johnson & Johnson "willfully ignored and sought to suppress the research" around paracetamol and autism.

This legal action seeks to make the corporations "remove any promotional materials" that claims Tylenol is secure for pregnant women.

The Texas lawsuit echoes the complaints of a collection of guardians of young ones with autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who sued the manufacturers of acetaminophen in recently.

Judicial authorities dismissed the lawsuit, stating research from the parents' expert witnesses was lacking definitive proof.
